my 48 hours without social media

Pop. Ding. Whistle. Whoosh.

Those notification sounds were off for my 48 hours of digital detox. No sounds, no ringtones, and no distractions. Initially, the challenge was daunting; the habitual scrolling and the constant notifications had become my digital reflexes, and I am sure you can relate, too. However, as a few hours progressed, the absence of social media carved out spaces for reflection, real-world connections, and hobbies that I had long neglected. Those hobbies include pilates, yoga, spinning, reading, and more.

The challenges were real—feelings of FOMO, the urge to check updates, and the initial disconnection from the online world. Yet, these challenges paved the way for unexpected benefits. I rediscovered the joy of reading, engaged more deeply in conversations without the distraction of notifications, and felt an overall increase in my mental clarity and well-being. This journey taught me the value of intentional disconnection, helping me to establish healthier digital habits and craft a peaceful world for myself.

It was a powerful reminder that life beyond the screen is rich with experiences waiting to be discovered. Going forward, I have decided to incorporate regular digital detoxes into my routine, ensuring that I maintain a balanced relationship with technology.
